The 'Belly' Boom is about to shake North Vancouver!!!
Fall 2003

Bellydancing, along with yoga and pilates, is one of the fastest growing trends at recreation centers across North America. From Shakira's alluring undulations to the Charlie's Angels' attempt at shimmies, bellydancing is snaking it's way into mainstream society.
And why now? Why North Vancouver? Two words: Nila Allat.
Nila has recently relocated to North Vancouver from Victoria, and is bringing her exotic coins, veils and dance expertise to an unsuspecting population of women on the North Shore.
"I am looking forward to sharing the excitement of this beautiful and ancient dance with the North Shore , " says Nila. "I am always amazed at the eclectic mix of women who are drawn to the dance. From teens to mature women, shy to flamboyant, artsy to sporty types - I get them all!"
An accomplished choreographer, her last troupe performed all around Vancouver Island, finishing with a prime slot at last summer's ICA Victoria's Annual Folkfest! With that successful experience under her coin belt, Nila is ready for her next challenge, and is bringing it to North Vancouver. Besides teaching, Nila expects to perform, host workshops, and put together a new performing troupe!
"Everyone comes to my classes for different reasons - from wanting a flat tummy to getting in touch with their body. Then there are those women who just want to get out and have a good workout. I guarantee lots of sweat, fun and laughter in my classes."
"In Victoria, I had groups come from Weight Watchers for a fun and low impact way to lose weight and patients sent to me from spinal re-alignment practitioners to strengthen & maintain correct posture , " says Nila.
Nila herself was drawn to the dance when she moved away from home after taking years of tap, jazz and ballet, becoming tired of the old 'step, ball, change' drill. This led her to her first bellydance class in Calgary 6 years ago, where she immediately fell in love with the exotic, alluring and natural movements that she tried that night! Although she felt a bit awkward, she also felt beautiful!
Fast forward to North Vancouver, and Nila still feels the same way, having danced her way into the ranks of excellent instructors and performers on the West Coast..
As an instructor, she urges students to try to be in their body, have fun, and relax as they work out and sweat. She teaches in her classes different styles from around the Middle East - from sassy Gypsy to a courtly Persian dance, and everything in between.
Are North Vancouver's women as ready for Nila as she is for them? With her focus and attitude, they may not have any choice, so get ready to shimmy ladies!
